Description: This session is targeted at professionals who are “policy makers” in their districts.
Talking Points: School Board awareness, District use policy vs. building, How are policies / procedures
published and shared? Student vs. Faculty, Parental Consent?

What policy do you have?
Is it revised often to address new technologies or should it be an overall general policy?
The discussion seemed to say districts would like a good general policy, but wonder if it is possible.
The discussion also centered on the policy is just part of the solution. We need to educate teachers and students of the impact of their technology use.
And acceptable behavior at school and privately? And how technology use can hurt us in the future?

Ethics training of teachers was discussed.
Millard - new and student teachers and teachers who got a laptop--1/2 day training
Westside -- all staff every 3 years or so
OPS -- depends on school
Gretna -- teachers who got a laptop -- 2 hour training

Parent consent --
OPS, Bellevue, Gretna --- consent
Millard & Westside -- opt out

Bellevue -- students tag with student id

Whitelist or Blacklist?
Most districts said blacklist, because it is more practical.

Student email systems?
Millard -- 3rd up -- Gaggle
OPS & Westside -- 9-12 First Class
Westside -- can use personal email
Bellevue and Gretna -No email
Bennington -- Gaggle E-mail is provided for students. Access to all other E-mail is blocked for students.

Millard keeps "forever"
Bennington -- ESU3 archives for 1 year. They then copy off to DVD which is given to us to keep.
